Who
said history is boring ?
Here
we have just one of the major clearance projects currently
underway. Undertaken entirely by Fort Amherst
volunteers.
This
truly is history in action ....

In
temperatures of minus 4 degrees, a small army of volunteers
arrived on site to undertake the clearing of undergrowth
and trees from the ditches that protected the Spur Battery
and Flanking Galleries from any assault by the French.
These
areas have been hidden from view for many years but
now; thanks to their hard work and enthusiasm, the defences
can once again be appreciated.
