Summer Season Opening for 2010
Whilst
the parkland grounds of Fort Amherst are open free of charge
daily from 10am to 3.30pm to visitors, the tunnels and buildings
are closed. However, the Summer Open Days will provide visitors
with the opportunity to join a guided tour of the extensive
tunnel network as well as allowing access to some of the
buildings.

Tours
last between 1 and 1¼ hours, and cover the history
of Fort Amherst, the Chatham Lines as well as the various
defences and general history of Medway. With no script no
two tours are ever the same!
Important
Information for Your Visit
- Whilst
Fort Amherst welcomes all visitors, this historic
site has places with difficult stairs and passageways
and wheelchair access is limited. There are also a large
number of steps and slopes throughout the site.
- There
are many uneven paths on the site and flat footwear
is recommended.
